at Maurilio Lopes Studio Gallery

Cantos Three and Four The Lusiads, 61.5 x 46.5 inches, acrylic on canvas

Maurilio Lopes Summer Exhibition

Saturdays 12-5pm
Maurilio Lopes Studio Gallery, St. Catharines

Showcasing the work of Niagara Region visual artist, Maurilio Lopes. Thirty abstract paintings on display, large and small, new as well as some older works from the vault. The earliest work on display, a small framed diptych 25.75 x 17 inches, dates back to 1970, and the newest, Cantos Three and Four The Lusiads was completed recently in 2023. Filled with dark tones and tension-filled clash of yellows, blues, red and black this work depicts dramatically turbulent periods in Portugal’s history and is aptly suited in speaking to the current divisions and turmoil playing out on the global scene today.

The Three Sisters, 78 x 60.5 inches

The impressive painting, The Three Sisters, presents an expansive tableau of dancing color as three blurred forms twirl across the 78 x 60.5 inch surface, exuberant in their youth.
