Lustre Contemporary opens its new gallery at 150 Sterling Road in Toronto’s Junction Triangle with The Harbingers, a solo exhibition of new paintings by pink milk drink.

Blending art history, mythology, and the absurdities of contemporary life, The Harbingers reflects on the stories we create to make sense of the unknown.

Set in a whimsical world rife with hubris and overconsumption, entities wander through flooding and droughting landscapes, carrying undertones of apathy, joy, societal confusion, and apocalyptic dread. The beings in these narratives seek transfiguration into a more enlightened state; however, their behaviour remains decidedly human.

In the world of The Harbingers, pink does not lead us to a place of joy and sweet innocence. A warning is faintly heard through the din.

About pink milk drink

pink milk drink is a Canadian artist working between Dawson City, Yukon, and Toronto. Her paintings combine animals, pop culture, text, humour, and social critique to create worlds that are both comic and uneasy. Through absurd characters and familiar cultural references, she explores human-animal relationships, environmental anxiety, capitalism, and the strange logic of contemporary life.
