Sound Bath Meditation
with The SoundBody Collective
April 29, 2023, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Kyle Yip’s trans-disciplinary practice integrates eastern and western recovery-based approaches derived from gnosis and neuroscience. It plays with the new fixities of identity politics drawn from the colour-field of pop physics, combining euclidean and sacred geometry with vexillology. Some of these practices include art therapy, dreamwork, as well as meditation, reiki, and esoteric cosmological rituals that unsettle mainstream norms in contemporary art. His work addresses an urgent need in the art industry to merge explorations between personal development and avant-gardist aesthetics.

Yip achieved a significant breakthrough in 2017 when he discovered the unique ability to conceive and examine artworks that emerge during his dreams in vivid detail. He coterminously reverse-engineered these successive images that once appeared immaterial into tactile, obdurate objects.

The bands of simple Gestalt forms incorporate an aspect of both the ancient and modern world, and the overall vexillological format of the works also involves how visual attention is augmented through the practice of serial repetition. These works reveal how the unconscious has been branded by advertising formulas redolent of monotonous imagery of the commodity form. The subversive hybrid of these methods metaphorically maps a similarly disruptive kind of complex new identity.

Take in the evocative work of trans-disciplinary artist Kyle Yip, and immerse yourself in a soothing sound bath by The SoundBody Collective with a Sound Bath for Unconscious Awakening, a one-of-a-kind live therapeutic soundscape experience created by The SoundBody Collective, a “sound bath band” comprised of three certified sound healing practitioners, Laura Notton, Nicole Manes and Rufus Glassco.

On Saturday, April 29th, 2023, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Collision Gallery in Toronto, join one of the city’s “most diverse soundscape groups” for a wholly unique sound bathing experience that will naturally relax your mind and body.

Taking place at an expansive art gallery space and inspired by the dream-informed work of Kyle Yip and his solo exhibition, RENAISSANCE SHOW, The SoundBody Collective will combine a multitude of instruments and voices, including quartz crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, shruti box, didgeridoo, handpan, drum, tanpura, ocean drum and chimes to create a transcendental and healing sonic journey designed to help recipients bridge their conscious and unconscious awareness.

Give yourself the opportunity to receive healing vibrations, release fear and frustration and align with your innermost hopes, dreams and intentions for the year ahead through the power of sound.

Doors will open at 7:00 p.m., and the sound bath will begin at 7:30 p.m. We encourage you to arrive early to enjoy the exhibition before settling in for the soundscape journey.

Please bring a yoga mat if you have one, as a limited supply will be available on-site. We also encourage you to bring anything else to help you be comfortable lying or seated for approximately one hour.

For those new to sound baths, please know there is no right or wrong way to receive one. During a sound bath, some people may experience emotions, physical sensations, visions or fall asleep. This is common, and The SoundBody Collective will be available afterwards to provide support as needed and answer any questions. No meditation experience is required to benefit from a sound bath.
