County: The Way Home features work by Julie Seddon. The exhibition touches on two aspects of her art making practice: the photograph that captures a moment where the natural and human made world co-exist in a reflection on glass, and her painted interpretation of that image with its further abstraction and expression.

About the Artist
Julie Seddon is a Canadian painter, relocated from Toronto to Prince Edward County. Since graduating from York University fine arts in 1991, she has consistently painted and exhibited in and around the Toronto Area and now in the County as well. For over 20 years she focused on figurative painting, and the last 15 years has seen a departure to non-figurative abstraction. Working from her photographs of windows, instant abstraction combines the interior and exterior of the building, both visually melting in the glass. Painting from these photographs, aspects of the captured moment become more or less abstracted in the process. This process of capturing a reflection and interpreting it is deeply connected to the artists’ life view. There are moments of intrigue around us every day. It’s our job to recognize the gift that consciousness is. By painting these glimpses of visual alignment, the artist celebrates the visual excitement of unexpected moments. The images point to the coexistence of the human-made and the natural world. By creating the paintings, the artist attempts to reconcile the dissonance between the two while finding joy and beauty within.

About the Vitrines
Housed in two custom-made display cases, this new exhibition series aims to increase the public visibility of artwork throughout the year while creating paid opportunities for artists. Located in the Armoury Atrium outside the County Arts Lab, in Picton the vitrines will feature rotating exhibitions by County artists working in a variety of mediums. The program is made possible thanks to a multi-year donation to the Artist Fund. For more information, visit countyarts.ca/funding.
