Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager Creative Industries and Community Development, the Music Industry Development Coordinator will have the vision, energy and communication skills to successfully use Mississauga’s unique positioning to capitalize fully on the vast array of opportunities presented by its growing music sector. The Coordinator will be responsible for working with the Mississauga’s Creative Industries advisors and key stakeholders to advance the recommendations of the Creative Industry Strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Using knowledge of the music industry and City bylaws, policies and processes finds a balance between supporting the needs of the local industry and compliance
  • Oversees all reporting, statistics keeping and financial administration for the unit
  • Supports the Manager, Creative Industries in overseeing the office including back up staffing, the provision of effective customer service, and the development and maintenance of processes designed to be efficient and reliable for both the office and the clients.
  • Additional work plan projects to support the growth of the music industry in Mississauga as per the Creative Industry Strategy and the Culture Master Plan
  • Primary point of contact for field questions and concerns by artists, businesses, residents and city councillors
  • Research availability, contact information of prospective artists
  • Intake, assessment and prioritization of events and programmes
  • Support the logistics, planning and execution of music events by participating in site visits, technical scouts, and communicating in a timely manner to all pertinent parties
  • Ensure that all planned activities comply applicable City by-laws and policies
  • Track and respond to inquiries
  • Investigate, assess and resolve conflicts and issues regarding music events and programming
  • Operational Lead for the music sector – develop annual work-plans, develop and implement music sector-specific initiatives that will advance the Creative Industry Strategy;
  • Contribute to the development of 4 year business plans
  • Oversee the preparation of reports, content for music sector publications, speeches and presentations for the Manager, Director, Commissioner, Leadership Team and Council
  • Coordinate and disseminate directories, websites and mailing lists
  • Keep current on music industry trends, resources, outlooks and developments from industry resources
  • Research and provide recommendations to increase the number of live music venues in Mississauga;
  • Assess existing barriers and provide recommendations to facilitate the removal of barriers in by-laws, policies, processes and practices that impede the growth of live music.
  • Work with Business Planning Unit to develop metrics to measure the effectiveness and success of programs, activities and projects;
  • Collaborate with the Economic Development Office to identify opportunities for music businesses and music support industries; liaison to the Creative Industries representative on EDAB
Skills and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Music or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years‚Äô experience
  • Working knowledge of the music industry
  • Extremely organized to juggle daily changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish effective working relations, provide excellent customer service
  • Demonstrated proficiency and a comfort with learning new software
  • Valid class G driver‚Äôs license
  • May require light lifting of supplies/materials.
  • Exposure to computer keyboards and screens. Primarily office environment with event and site visits.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 69,629.00 – $ 92,842.00
