Jim Bourke is a Toronto-based figurative painter whose practice centers on the wax-based medium of encaustic. His work is known for its bold visual language and meticulous attention to gesture, with each painting developed through an iterative process that reveals the construction behind the final image.

Bourke studied Fine Art at York University, completed his degree at OCAD, and later pursued training in computer animation at Sheridan College. He is a former board member of the Propeller Gallery and is currently an active member of the Red Head Gallery artists’ collective.

Trinity 2025, triptych, encaustic on canvas mounted on panel, 40″ x 40″.

He has participated in both national and international exhibitions. His work has been recognized with awards in juried exhibitions from organizations including the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA), the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition (TOAE), the Mississauga Art Gallery, and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA).
