The School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD), York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a full time, Contract Limited Appointment at the rank of Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream to serve as the Integrative Arts Program Coordinator to commence July 1, 2023. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide creative educational leadership to advance the Integrative Arts Program, AMPD’s unique, interdisciplinary program. As such, this position may choose a home department from one of the following AMPD Departments that constitute the Integrative Arts: Cinema and Media Arts, Computational Arts, Dance, Music, or Theatre, depending on their experience and background. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
Integrative Arts is a novel, interdisciplinary program that combines artistic and technological skills with an emphasis on creative methodologies, transdisciplinary study of the arts, and engagement in the creative industries, all within a social justice and decolonial framework. The program responds to changing student demand and industry needs by facilitating individualized student pathways through the program, connecting different courses from the faculty and culminating in collaborative capstone projects in C4, York University’s Cross-Campus Capstone Classroom. C4 connects students with external partners to solve real-world problems. We seek a colleague who brings a creative practice with a passion for teaching, experience in the creative industries, and a commitment to social justice and decolonial pedagogical initiatives.
Applicants will typically have a PhD, or a PhD equivalent (such as an MA/MFA with professional experience) with a demonstrated record of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and pedagogical leadership. However, we also acknowledge that within higher education, traditional or conventional academic pathways can reinforce biases in the filling of faculty posts. We welcome applications from candidates with experience and expertise beyond formal degree programs. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring experience in facilitating equity, diversity, and inclusion practices within their teaching and curricular development and leadership.
As a program dedicated to student success and support, we invite applications from those with a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to interdisciplinary arts teaching, learning and program design, and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Applicants are invited to demonstrate excellence in teaching university-level courses through the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference (to be solicited only for finalists). Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is highly preferred for this position and we invite applicants to share their relevant administrative experience with a vision for leading the Integrative Arts Program.
