Integrated Design Diploma Program

Chris Bahry, Burning Wolf, 2017/2018, Integrated Design Faculty

DESIGN YOUR FUTURE.

Integrated Design is the only design foundation program of its kind in Canada. In this accelerated, three-semester diploma program, students have a unique opportunity to implement their design skills in state-of-the-art fine art and craft studios which provides an enhanced understanding of materials and production techniques. They learn from an accomplished roster of contemporary crafters and designers including architects, landscape architects, documentary filmmakers, graphic, fashion and industrial designers.

Within the next ten years, over 5 million jobs will be lost to automation (and robots). Skills such as creative thinking, problem-solving and empathy for humanity, other species and the well-being of the planet will be the key to success. Integrating the visual arts, design, craft, and the latest technology in an intense and meaningful way, our students are prepared for the next paradigm shift and a life in design—whatever design discipline they decide to pursue.

Our program also promotes innovative ways for students to experience and participate in real-world design culture. Student, alumni and faculty work is featured in an exhibition at this year’s Design TO/Come Up to My Room event: Human/Nature: Meditations on Material Culture. Curated by Professor and Coordinator of Integrated Design, Barr Gilmore, the exhibition will be on the 4th Floor at the historic Gladstone Hotel, January 17-20, 2019. Opening reception: Saturday, January 19th from 7 to 10 pm.
