As part of the year-long celebration to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Korea-Canada diplomatic relations, the Korean Culture & Information Service (KOCIS), the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and the Korean Cultural Centre Canada (KCC) are thrilled to support the co-production of INSCAPE: New Homeostasis by INSCAPE and Mutek under the title of the 2023 Korean Culture Scene: Korean New Media Art Tour to Canada.

INSCAPE is an international new media art platform launched in 2021 by Jay Bang, whose professional career spans from technical manager at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology and producer and curator at Samsung Creative Lab. Partnering with ELEKTRA Montreal, INSCAPE 2021: Voyage To Hidden Landscape was a full-fledged new media art festival with a spectrum of exhibitions, performances, media façade and artist talks that went live with contributions from a constellation of artists around the world.

Titled INSCAPE: New Homeostasis, 2023 INSCAPE Montreal is working with MUTEK in Montreal to produce transdisciplinary art projects. INSCAPE: New Homeostasis will take place at Usine C on August 18 and 19. Two unique evenings will showcase eight new performances specially commissioned for the occasion, including Kohui, Yeono, Graycode, Jiiiiin (Korea), Susy.Technology, Martin Messier, Ida Toninato, Pierre-Luc Lecours, Olivia Lathuilliere (Canada), and Sahar Homami (Ireland/Denmark).

The eight new performances are specially commissioned for the occasion. Exploring the concept of homeostasis—the process by which a living system maintains stability despite external disturbances—these works highlight the imbalance between our material civilization and humanity’s spiritual capacity to make sense of it in the new technological and post-pandemic landscape.

Also, there will be a Panel session during MUTEK Festival Forum at The 7 Fingers on August 22, 2023, inviting artists and curators from INSCAPE and Mutek. This panel discussion will explore the theme “Curating Cross-Border Collaborations,” which has inspired the creation of the eight meticulously crafted audiovisual performances. The discussion will provide insights into the creative processes of Canadian and South Korean artists while highlighting the challenges and benefits of international co-production.
