A new online photobook store specializing in titles from Japan and Taiwan has launched in Canada

Hyoryusha Books is a platform dedicated to introducing lesser-known publications from Japan and Taiwan to Canadian audiences. Founded by Pengkuei Ben Huang, who has spent the past decade dividing his time among Canada, Japan, and Taiwan, the initiative is rooted in his extensive engagement with various lens-based projects. This diverse experience has enabled him to connect deeply with the photographic communities in these regions and build a meaningful network through exhibitions and collaborative efforts.

The inspiration for Hyoryusha Books emerged from this rich cultural exchange, prompting Ben to create a hub designed to bring East Asian publications to Canada. With a vision for expansion, the initiative aspires to evolve into a platform for lens-based artists with Asian backgrounds through talk events and publications, further enriching the Canadian art scene with diverse voices and perspectives from East Asia.
