The Goldfish (Germany 2019, 1h 51min), comedy written and directed by Alireza Golafshan, starring Tom Schilling (Never Look Away) Jella Haase (Berlin Alexanderplatz), Birgit Minichmayr (Everyone Else), Luisa Wöllisch, Kida Khodr Ramadan, and others.
Canadian premiere!
An unlikely band of misfits come together for the greater good: tax evasion. On the way to an appointment, Oliver — a successful portfolio manager — gets into a crash on the highway. He wakes up as a paraplegic, forced to undergo months of rehab to prepare for life in a wheelchair. As he attempts to escape his ‘handicap prison’ with bad WiFi, he stumbles upon a shared apartment for the disabled called the Goldfish Group. He comes up with the perfect idea — using his new friends and a disability bus to smuggle illegal money across the border.
Winner of the Bavarian Film Award for Best Young Direction, this hilarious and tender comedy is available for one night only and spots are limited.
Presented by the Goethe-Institut Toronto, the General Consulate of Germany in Toronto, & the Down Syndrome Association of Ontario
