Gibraltar Point Turns 25. Come Celebrate With Us.
Saturday, September 21, 2024
We are happy to announce two auctions, an Online Art Auction and a Silent Auction in support of the Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts (GPCA), an artist residency and event space on Mnisiing/Toronto Island.
For 25 years, GPCA has served over 10,000 artists by offering residency space on the Gibraltar Point shoreline, just a 5-minute boat ride from the hustle of downtown Toronto—a truly unique feature of Toronto’s art scene. Despite its integral role in artists’ lives, GPCA has faced significant challenges, particularly following the uncertainty created when the previous operator, Artscape, went into receivership. Now under the stewardship of the non-profit ArtHubs Toronto Inc., GPCA needs community support for its second life, to sustain affordable access to space and facility repairs.
The Online Auction, aimed at fundraising for the Centre, will launch on Saturday, September 21, 2024, coinciding with Gibraltar Point’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, and will run until October 10, 2024. It will feature an incredible list of artists who have generously participated in this initiative to raise funds for the Centre. This list includes Ibrahim Abusitta, Stephen Andrews, Shary Boyle, Lisa Cristinzo, Laura Dawe, Dylan Glynn, Andrew Harding, April Hickox, Barbara Klunder, Brendan George Ko, Zachari Logan, Rachel MacFarlane, Shawn Skeir, Ilene Sova, Janna Watson, and Alize Zorlutuna.

Bidding opens on September 21 at 1am
The Silent Auction will take place at the 25th Anniversary Celebration. On offer: work by Island artists and Island-based experiences, including dinner and drinks at the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, a boat cruise or two, guided tours of the Island community and the dunes, and a variety of workshops. For a complete listing of auction items, follow the Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts fundraising page on Instagram at @gpca.raisetheroof. DM Raise the roof if you want to make a bid or donate but cannot join us.
The 25th Anniversary Celebration is at the GPCA on Saturday, September 21 from 3pm to 7pm. The Centre is located at 443 Lakeshore Ave on Toronto Island. A free bus shuttle for guests is offered from the Hanlans Point Ferry Docks at 2:45pm with a 7:30pm return. RSVP here.
