For 10 weeks every two years, local and international artists transform Toronto and surrounding regions with artworks, talks, and performances that reflect local contexts and pressing issues of our time. The Biennial’s free, citywide programs aim to inspire individuals, bridge communities, and contribute to global conversations from a variety of perspectives. The next Toronto Biennial of Art takes place from March 26–June 5, 2022.

Position Overview
Job Title: Gallery Attendant
Role Type: Part-Time Contract. Minimum 18 hrs/week (with the possibility of additional hours depending on need per location)
Contract Length: March 20 – June 5, 2022
Location: Various TBA exhibition sites in Toronto and Mississauga (72 Perth Avenue,
5 Lower Jarvis, 45 Ernest Avenue, 1352 Lakeshore Rd. East)
Salary: $20/hour

The Toronto Biennial of Art (TBA) is seeking 6 to 8 Gallery Attendants who will provide an important service to the public by creating a welcoming and informative environment for all visitors, as well as aid in the overall visitor experience, implement health and safety guidelines, ensure the safety of the artwork, and aid in daily venue operations at our upcoming 2022 Biennial.
Gallery Attendant Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide a friendly and welcoming environment as the first point of contact for visitors.
- Perform exceptional customer service – greet, direct and actively assist visitors.
- Orient visitors to and encourage participation in public programming events.
- Administer Covid Screening protocol & track capacity if necessary.
- Become knowledgeable about the artists and exhibitions on view.
- Be prepared to personalize connections for visitors through one-on-one or group conversation.
- Understand the scope of the Biennial and encourage visitors to visit other TBA venues.
- Distribute TBA material and assist with the management of sales of TBA catalogs and other items.
- Respond to emergencies in a professional manner.
- Be aware of site-specific programming for the day and lend assistance if needed.
- Responsible for the opening and closing of the venue in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:
- Interpersonal skills: You are personable and engaging so that you will be able to answer visitor questions regarding the art and exhibitions.
- Deep interest in and knowledge about contemporary art: A passion or an affinity for art that you are willing to share with the public is important.
- Communication skills: You speak clearly when providing information to visitors.
- Confidence: You display a confident, friendly manner as a gallery professional, who provides information that visitors can trust.
- Time management: Strong time management and self-organization skills.
