Digital Exhibition Toolkit and Art Installation Launcher (DETAIL)

The MacKenzie Art Gallery is excited to announce the launch of DETAIL—a free, comprehensive resource for digital art exhibition development.

Digital artists constantly push creative boundaries, challenging galleries to support evolving media in accessible formats. The MacKenzie Art Gallery developed DETAIL through three years of intensive collaboration with digital artists and guest curators, creating a toolkit that transforms how digital art is presented to audiences.

DETAIL offers a range of tools with varying levels of complexity:

  • Ready-to-use exhibition templates for beginners
  • Unity game engine plugins for advanced customization
  • Comprehensive development workflows and documentation

This toolkit supports multiple exhibition platforms—from web browsers to mobile devices to virtual reality headsets—enabling galleries, artists, and curators to create engaging digital exhibitions without extensive technical knowledge.

Developed through three pilot digital exhibitions, DETAIL addresses the challenges of presenting diverse digital artwork—from web art to virtual reality installations—while establishing new pathways for digital exhibition-making.

On March 14, 2025 all DETAIL resources will be available for free through the MacKenzie Art Gallery website, along with detailed documentation from our pilot exhibitions that demonstrates practical applications of these tools in professional contexts.
