Garden History
new work by Liz Parkinson

September 27, 2021 – October 26, 2021

working drawings for Garden History, Liz Parkinson, 2021

Every garden is a replica, a representation, an attempt to recapture something.
– Robert Harbison, Eccentric Spaces

Covid has made us all slow down and rethink our desires. Walking side-roads and revisiting her home library during the pandemic, Liz Parkinson returned to her battered reprint of John Parkinson’s 1629 Paradisi in Sole Paradisus Terrestris (Park-in-Sun’s Earthly Paradise). Seen as the first western garden manual, it collected woodcuts of a thousand known plants organizing them as “The Place, The Time, The Names, The Virtues.”

Liz Parkinson’s walking and study merge in recognitions of local wild plants in historic prints and a rethinking of her relationship to the place, the time, the names, and the virtues of what she desires in her garden paradise.

Colour & Cut
featuring new work by Laine Groeneweg

October 27, 2021 – November 28, 2021

excerpts from Colour & Cut, Laine Groeneweg, 2021

Colour & Cut features a number of new works by Laine Groeneweg inspired by a bounty of off-cut and leftover materials. These works are reflections of spontaneity and playing around in the studio with hand-printing, laser cutting, and collage. This work is diverse but united with the excitement for colour and materiality.
