How you create and what brings meaning to your art-making practice? VAM is offering artists an opportunity to consider these questions and more in its fifth Why do you create? exhibition. This show will be juried.

Jurors will select up to 50 art-works for exhibition. VAM will display 25 winning and selected pieces on the walls of the VAM Gallery January 17 – February 20 with all chosen artworks be presented in an online gallery that will be up from January 17 – June 30, 2022.

Open to emerging and established artists living and working in Ontario, the entry deadline is midnight on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Submit on Jotform here or as an attached PDF to exhibits@visualartsmississauga.com with Why do you create? Submission in the subject line. For more submission information, click here or go to www.visualartsmississauga.com and look under the Events and Exhibitions tab, followed by the Why do you create? tab. There is a $25 +HST entry fee for all submissions. Pay online here or by phone at 905-277-4313, daily 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Why do you create? Panel of Jurors:

Kim-Lee Kho – A popular and experienced art educator, speaker, and juror, Kim-Lee is a Canadian, Brampton-based multidisciplinary artist, exploring personal experience as a gateway to broader human concerns. She has participated nationally in exhibitions, residencies, and mentorships; and won awards including grants from the Ontario Arts Council.

Annis Karpenko, MFA, MEd – Since 2014, Annis has been the executive director of Visual Arts Mississauga. In her private life, she is a photographer, writer and artist whose current focus is printmaking and mixed media.
