Since 2014, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada has partnered with The Body Electric digital art exhibit, presented annually at the International Conference on Residency Education. The Body Electric showcases art in a range of media, including photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, and film. The Body Electric understands art as an intervention that explores, disrupts, deepens and reimagines medicine. It offers a set of practices for meaning-making, looking, and reflecting, through which we can stand in new relations with the subjects and objects of health care.

This year, The Body Electric jury is looking for visual art submissions that reflect the ICRE 2023 theme, From Caring for Patients to Protecting Our Planet: Advocacy in Residency Education.
You are invited to approach the theme of advocacy broadly from various experiential and critical perspectives, such as:
- Art as / for advocacy
- Art, advocacy, patients, healthcare providers
- Art and planetary health
Visual art can be submitted in any medium but will be represented digitally.
Artists whose work is included in The Body Electric will receive $100.00 for exhibiting their work
Submissions will be juried and selected by The Body Electric Advisory Group based on quality and overall fit with the theme of the exhibit. Submissions selected by the jury will be displayed in the Exhibit Hall as part of ICRE 2023. These works will also be available online after the exhibition on www.royalcollege.ca/icre, and The Body Electric website.
* You are not required to attend the conference if your artwork is accepted.
