Call for Submissions: God’s Book of Nature at Redeemer Art Gallery

Artworks by Ruth Ann Bos (main wall) and Wilhelmina Kenedy (left side).

Seeking submissions for a focused, curated group exhibition.

Deadline: No later than July 24, 2026; some selections will be made earlier.

This summer, we are renovating our art gallery. With two new feature walls and lighting, the space will showcase thought provoking work for the three professional exhibitions we curate each academic year.

We are seeking submissions to inaugurate the improved space. This will be a focused group exhibition exploring the theme of “the Book of Nature.” The exhibition will feature 4 – 6 artists, devoting an area of the gallery to each. We are not looking for individual works, but series or installations that speak to the theme.

The concept of “the book of nature” has its origins with Augustine, the theologian and philosopher. He recognized that God can be known, not only through written Scripture, but through God’s creative work in the cosmos. “But there is a great book: the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look below you! Note it. Read it. God, whom you want to discover, never wrote that book with ink. Instead, He set before your eyes the things that He had made.

For this exhibition, we are seeking artists who explore the natural world as an intricacy that points to God’s creative authorship. “Nature” might involve landscape vistas – but you might explore the vastness of galaxies or the complex worlds of mushrooms or DNA. We seek works that raise questions and help us to encounter both nature and theology in new ways.

All media are welcome (though sound work can be hard to accommodate). Drawing, installation, painting, textile, video. The space has several very large walls with high ceilings, so large scale ideas are welcome.

The exhibition will tie into a conference titled To Love This World: Receiving the Gift of Creation, which will assemble regional and international scholars, theologians, and artists.

We pay artist fees, with limited additional resources for shipping.

Redeemer Gallery

The art gallery is a place of discourse and encounter. Sometimes the work moves us with beauty and wholeness; sometimes the work is prophetically challenging, unsettling our habits and encouraging us to look at the world afresh.

The gallery presents projects by artists from a wide range of perspectives. We have presented exhibitions by indigenous artists, artists of diverse faith traditions, projects about immigration and complex cultural identities. Forming a rich space of dialogue and exchange, exhibitions broaden our visions and forge connections across difference.

One goal of the gallery is to showcase artists who express themselves artistically from a distinctly Christian perspective. In this way, Christian artists are encouraged and resourced to continue building their creative practices, and networks of creators are deepened.
