Call for Submissions: 2023 Annual Juried Exhibition

Latcham Art Centre, Stouffville
Artwork submission drop-off date: Tuesday, March 7 from 10 AM – 8 PM

Latcham Art Centre invites artists to submit up to two recent works (completed in 2023, 2022 or 2021) in any medium or subject matter to our much-anticipated Annual Juried Exhibition! This year’s Annual Juried Exhibition runs from Monday March 13 to Saturday April 22, 2023.

Latcham will be accepting applications in person and online, but all artworks must be dropped off in person at the Art Centre on Tuesday, March 7 between 10 AM and 8 PM. A non-refundable fee of $25.00 per artist must accompany each application, payable online or in person.

Applications and more information on rules and regulations are available here

Submitted artworks will be assessed and selected by an esteemed panel of three art professionals:

Heather Riley (They/Them) is an artist, zinester, and arts professional currently working as Project Coordinator, Digital Collections at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa. In both their art and research, Heather is interested in examining queer histories hidden within art collections, and the ways in which queer bodies exist throughout history. They have exhibited in group shows at Visual Arts Mississauga, The Red Head Gallery, and Art Museum at the University of Toronto, and have curated shows at the Maclaren Art Centre, and Robert McLaughlin Gallery (upcoming).

Katie Lawson (She/Her) is a curator and writer based in Toronto. Most recently, she was a curator for the Toronto Biennial of Art, working with Candice Hopkins and Tairone Bastien on the inaugural 2019 and 2021 editions. She has guest curated exhibitions at the MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie; Y+ Contemporary, Scarborough; RYMD, Reykjavik; the Art Museum, Toronto; the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto and Images Festival, Toronto. Katie is a graduate of the Master of Visual Studies Curatorial program at the University of Toronto, where she previously completed her Master of Arts in Art History. She is currently working towards a PhD in Art and Visual Culture at Western University, with an interest in contemporary art and climate change.

Emmanuel Osahor is an artist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto, Scarborough. His practice engages with beauty as a necessity for survival, and a precursor to thriving in the midst of today’s marginalization and inequity. Through a rigorously playful inquiry into materials and image making processes, his works depict garden spaces as complicated sanctuaries within which manifestations of beauty and care are present. Emmanuel is a graduate of the Master of Fine Art program at the University of Guelph. His work has been presented in multiple solo and group exhibitions across Canada and can be found in the collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Art Gallery of Guelph, Art Gallery of Alberta, Art Bank of Canada, RBC, and TD Bank. He is represented by Galerie Nicolas Robert.

The selected artworks will be presented in a group exhibition on display at the gallery from March 13 to April 22, 2023. The Juried Exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for artists to have their work exhibited in a public gallery setting.

$1,000 in Juror’s Awards will be presented at the opening reception on Friday, March 17 from 7–9 pm.

If you require assistance or guidance in submitting your application, please contact Tyler Durbano, Curator, at curator@latchamartcentre.ca or call Latcham Art Centre at 905-640-8954.
