Project Goals and Themes:

Walter Gretzky, (born October 8, 1938) is best known as the father of ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. The elder Gretzky, an avid hockey player as a youth and a keen analyst of the game, is credited by his famous son as playing a key role in his phenomenal success as a player. Walter Gretzky is well known in his own right for his contributions to minor hockey in Canada, and for his dedication to helping many local, provincial, and national charities, for which he has been honoured and recognized.

This sculpture dedicated to Mr. Gretzky is a thank you and acknowledgement of his deep dedication to minor sports in Brantford as well as his contribution to local charities and interests.

The work will be created utilizing the many sticks left behind on the parking spot when he passed.

A sample image or drawing should be included in the submission. In addition, the artist should prepare the sculpture for exposure to the elements with a protective coating, UV protection etc. to extend the life of the work.

It is understood that the nature of the materials provided (hockey sticks) will not be structurally sound and cannot be used as the structural basis of the work. It is expected that other materials are to be used to expand the life span of the sculpture.

The proposed sculpture will be a maximum of 7‘ by 10’ and minimum of 4’ x 6’ in size. Submissions outside of these measurements will not be considered.

Submissions must also include a mechanism to secure the sculpture to the asphalt ground (i.e. screwed down, a secured base etc.)
