Struts Gallery is seeking proposals for exhibitions to take place over the next two operating years, beginning summer 2026 through winter 2028. As an artist-run centre, we are passionate about providing a space for creative exploration and risk-taking. We are interested in unconventional and challenging contemporary art that engages with critical, conceptual, or experimental ideas and approaches. Struts Gallery encourages submissions of work that is new and recent, that engages community, activates dialogue, and represents diverse perspectives.

Struts Gallery is an artist-run centre located in Sackville, New Brunswick, a rural community of roughly 6000 people, operating on the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People in the Siknikt district of Mi’kma’ki.

We welcome proposals from artists and groups that have historically been underrepresented in the gallery, including Indigenous people, Black people, people of colour, and 2SLGBTQIA+. Current students and/or MFA thesis exhibitions will not be considered.

Notes on the Building

Our building is over 120 years old and has experienced its share of wear and tear. Our gallery space is not pristine or square. The floors are worn, ceilings are low, and our lighting system is ad hoc. It is not a precious space, but we are open to experimentation, alterations, and interventions

Eligibility

We invite proposals from professional Canadian artists and artists collectives working in all disciplines. Professional artists at all career levels are welcome to apply. If you currently enrolled as a student, you are not eligible for this opportunity.

Compensation

• an artist fee for exhibition in accordance with the current CARFAC Fee Schedule under Category 1.
• an additional budget of $1000 toward installation, shipping, production, advertising, and/or travel, to be allocated by the gallery in consultation with the artist.
• installation assistance and access to media arts equipment and technical support.
• opportunity for an artist talk or workshop in conjunction with the exhibition.
• letters of invitation/support for travel grants and other funding.

Selection Process

Exhibitions are selected by a committee of Struts Gallery members and professional artists.
