MURAL SITES
Located in the heart of Ganges the Mural Project will encourage significant public engagement both during installation and once the mural is complete. The sites will be prepared to be installation ready for the winning artists or artist teams.

SITE 1 — Salt Spring Coffee (West Wall)
Description: The mural site faces west. Highly visible to pedestrian traffic and located at a busy gathering place and thoroughfare on the island.
Size: 58 feet wide by 14.5 feet high
Surface: Concrete cinder block
Budget: $15,000
Theme: sustainability, reciprocity + creativity
Special Considerations: In the middle of the wall are a door, a window and an awning. The awning can be painted over, but the windows and the door may not. There is a sidewalk in front of the mural. The location is an extremely busy laneway.

SITE 2 — Lam’s Lane
Description: Part of it is in a narrow alleyway, the western end of the wall is taller and visible by all traffic coming down Fulford-Ganges hill and Seaview Avenue. This mural will be visible from a busy local bakery.
Size: 58 feet wide by 14.5 feet high
Budget: $15,000
Theme: sustainability, reciprocity + creativity
Special Considerations: The delineated portion of the wall has the above-listed measurements. The mural may expand above and below, to the dotted lines. The windows cannot be painted over. There are propane tanks in front of the wall which cannot be painted.

SITE 3 — Glad’s Ice Cream (Southwest Wall)
Description: This mural location is in the heart of Ganges Village. It is located on the southwest-facing wall of a busy ice cream shop. It will be highly visible to pedestrian and automobile traffic.
Size: 32 feet wide by 9.4 feet high
Budget: $5,000
Theme: On the Rise: Navigating Climate Grief + Action. For further information please read the document.
Special Considerations: This is a part of a larger wall that continues behind foliage and gardens. A smooth/aesthetic transition from the mural to the non-mural is critical to the design. The delineated portion of the wall has the above-listed measurements. The mural may expand below to the dotted lines. The windows cannot be painted over. The ice cream signage will be removed and will not be going back up.
