Project Description:

The Cambridge Sculpture Garden Committee wants to expand our collection by adding an interactive, family-friendly sculpture that will visually attract children and parents to the garden and engage them in play and artistic thought.

This sculpture addition will expand on the five permanent pieces currently in the garden and expand our audience to a broader age range of visitors. It will engage youth with an exciting, whimsical, visually engaging form that invites physical interaction and play. Exposure to innovative, creative art at a younger age and through family-friendly approaches will inspire, foster community connections and build support and appreciation for the arts sector in future generations.

Criteria:

Durability: The sculpture can withstand an outdoor environment throughout the year. It can be touched and climbed without damage.

Safety: The sculpture is safe for children and adults with no sharp or toxic surfaces and deters injury. Blindspots are minimized.

Aesthetics: The sculpture is bold, colourful, proportional and awe-inspiring, sparking the viewer’s creativity and imagination.

Setting: The sculpture compliments the space under the historic oak tree and location along the Grand River.

About The Cambridge Sculpture Garden

The Cambridge Sculpture Garden (CSG) enhances and preserves a unique oasis of green space in downtown Galt, providing free and open access for residents and visitors to experience contemporary art.

Nestled along the Grand River and bordering the Trans-Canada Trail, the site has been transformed from a flat, vacant strip of land to a lushly landscaped space that hosts five permanent sculptures from regional artists and various native and ornamental flora.

The Cambridge Sculpture Garden is a registered charitable organization managed by a volunteer committee and is supported by the City of Cambridge, community donors, and granting organizations.
