Call for Exhibition Proposals: Installation

Theme: Immersion

Eligibility: Artist and artist collectives at all career stages based in the Atlantic region

Struts Gallery is seeking proposals for an exhibition/installation that fully considers and transforms our gallery space. We invite proposals from artists and artist collectives based in the Atlantic region to create an immersive environment in our space. Successful applicants will spend the week of July 23-26 installing the work while living in our artist accommodations above the gallery. The exhibition is scheduled to run from July 30 – September 10, 2024.

We are interested in ambitious projects that change our visitors’ perception of the gallery, envelope the viewer, and/or create opportunity for meaning and dialogue to emerge. We are open to new or previously exhibited work from a broad spectrum of mediums and approaches. Works that incorporate analog or digital video, sound, performative elements, ritual, interactivity, sculpture, sensorial stimulation, architectural intervention, or contemplative ambiance will all be considered. For those who are interested, Struts Gallery has an extensive collection of media arts equipment available for artists’ use.

In addition to artist fees according to CARFAC exhibition rate, Struts will provide:

  • Per diems for a 4 day install
  • Accommodations
  • Travel expenses
  • Use of Struts media arts equipment
  • Promotion and documentation of the exhibition
  • Transportation fee if applicable

Call for Proposals: Short-term Sappyfest Adjacent Art Projects

Deadline to Apply: Tuesday, March 19, 2024, 11:59pm (ADT)
Eligibility: Canadian Artists and art collectives at all career stages

Struts Gallery is seeking short-term artist projects that run adjacent to everyone’s favourite music festival Sappyfest taking place August 2 – 4, 2024. Artist and artist collectives are welcome to propose projects that will transform different areas of Sackville or Struts Gallery facilities into memorable, creative spaces. We are interested in ongoing, ambient projects that invite festival goers to engage with and participate in the art in some capacity. We encourage projects that animate zones, create respite from the festival’s noise, and/or provide a catalyst for connection and engagement. We welcome use of our extensive media arts equipment holdings in the creation and/or execution of the project. Projects that occur outdoors are encouraged!

Eligible mediums include offsite installations, sound art, relational aesthetics, projections, and portable sculpture.

In addition to artist fees in accordance to the 2024 CARFAC Fee Schedule for festival exhibition or performance, successful applicants will receive

  • Festival pass for Sappyfest – access to Sappyfest artist meal services

Struts is dedicated to presenting work from contemporary artists working in various disciplines. We venture to present art that reflects the diversity of disciplines and media that shape contemporary art practices. Proposals from artists whose works are alternative, experimental and/or critically engaged are encouraged. We welcome proposals from artists from groups that have historically been underrepresented in the gallery, including Indigenous people, Black people, people of colour, and 2SLGBTQIA+.
