Call for Nominations: City of Hamilton 2020 Arts Awards

Who Will YOU Nominate?

Citizens are encouraged to nominate artists and arts community leaders for the 2020 Arts Awards program. Each year the City celebrates the outstanding achievements of its local artists with cash awards and civic recognition.

Nominations are welcomed from communities across Hamilton in 11 award categories: Arts Management, Fine Craft, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, Arts Education and Community Arts, Dance and Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Writing, Arts Innovation and Lifetime Achievement.

Emerging artists (practicing professionally for five years or less) can be nominated for the Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Prize presented by the Shirley M. Elford Artist’s Fund at Hamilton Community Foundation. The Prize is awarded in memory of the late Shirley Elford, a Hamilton artist celebrated for her excellence in glass work and her work giving back to the local arts community and community at large. In 2020 the Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Prize will be awarded in two categories: Writing and Community Art and Arts Education.

Artists, arts educators and arts community leaders nominated for a City of Hamilton Arts Award receive:

• Promotion through social and print media
• Opportunity to celebrate their nomination through personal and professional networks
• Civic recognition
• Between $1,000 – $2,500 cash if awarded in their category

The City of Hamilton Arts Awards program is one of the oldest municipal-led arts awards programs in Canada. Recognizing the vital contribution that artists make to Hamilton, the Arts Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individual artists, educators and arts managers who engage and participate in the arts.

Mark Your Calendar
The Arts Awards will be presented at a public event on June 13, 2019 during Hamilton Arts Week, continuing a growing tradition of celebration and respect for Hamilton’s creative culture.
