Call for Submissions for Emerging Black Artists
BAND invites Black artists or artist teams to apply for the opportunity to design, fabricate and install a temporary, site-specific outdoor sculpture work at the Toronto Sculpture Garden (Toronto, ON).
Black Artists’ Networks in Dialogue (BAND) is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting, documenting and showcasing the artistic and cultural contributions of Black artists and cultural workers in Canada and internationally.
Since opening in 1981, the Toronto Sculpture Garden (TSG) commissioned temporary artworks by over 80 artists, in a small City of Toronto park opposite St. James Cathedral on King Street The TSG provided artists with the opportunity to work experimentally in public space, explore issues of scale and materials, and engage with the local community as well as visitors to the neighbourhood.
Please note:
- Proposals should not exceed $35,000.
- The installation must be completed by December 2023.
- The artwork is required to be safe for the public.
Deadline: Thursday, March 23rd, 2023 by 5 pm.
