About the Residency
During the residencies artists enjoy the opportunity to freely explore music genres, ideas, writing, sound production, mixing, collaboration. We welcome interdisciplinary and crossover collaborations.

Gabriola Island has a permanent population of just over 4,500 with a large number of seasonal visitors. With one of the highest number of artists per capita in Canada and many art-centered events, Gabriola has earned its moniker, ‘Isle of the Arts’. There’s always something going on—from live theatre to art-show openings, house concerts to poetry readings. Our vibrant arts community offers the opportunity for musicians to build networks, reach new audiences and explore the different cultural influences on Gabriola.

The residency is entirely self-directed and self-catered. This allows the flexibility to work as autonomously or collaboratively as desired following your own creative process. This is a great opportunity for a focused respite from city life. Dream big, break free, and let your imagination run wild while waking up to a backdrop of wildlife and an ocean view each morning.

Waterfront Home
The accommodation is a private waterfront live/workspace house in an inspirational and intimate island setting. The house is suitable for two people, but we do not accept joint applications. The successful artist may choose to bring their partner, child or art companion upon approval. Unfortunately we are unable to host your pets.

About Toshiko Kasahara
Toshiko Kasahara’s love of Gabriola, the arts, and connection with community are what drives this residency. We hope that each artist in residence will also embrace these loves and leave behind lasting evidence of the connections the artist has fashioned with the Gabriola community during their time on the island.
