Call for Artists: Indigenous Artist in Residence 2026
Application Deadline: February 27, 2026, 4pm CST
The City of Regina is accepting applications for the 2026 Indigenous Artist in Residence (IAIR) program. Indigenous artists from First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities who live in Regina are invited to apply.
To mark the program’s fifth anniversary, five artists will be selected for paid residency positions in 2026. Each artist will create new work for inclusion in the City of Regina’s Civic Art Collection while engaging with the community through a public-facing residency.
About the Program
The Indigenous Artist in Residence program supports Indigenous artists in developing their creative practice while creating opportunities for public engagement and cultural exchange. The program provides artists with time, financial support and space to explore new ideas, share knowledge and contribute to Regina’s evolving civic art collection.
Artists working in all mediums are welcome to apply.
2026 Residency Theme
Belonging, Kinship and Continuity
The 2026 residency theme invites artists to explore relationships to place, community and cultural resilience. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme in ways that reflect their own lived experiences, artistic practices and connections to community.
What the Residency Includes
- Five paid residency positions
- $12,000 per artist (tax inclusive) to support artist fees and project costs
- 100 residency hours, completed between June and October 2026
- Creation of one new artwork for inclusion in the City of Regina’s Civic Art Collection
- Delivery of one community engagement session at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre
- Participation in a final group exhibition at the Art Gallery of Regina in December 2026
Who Can Apply
This call is open to:
- Indigenous artists who identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis
- Artists who live in Regina
- Artists working in any medium or discipline
Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply.
Important Dates
- Application deadline: February 27, 2026 at 4pm CST
- Residency period: June to October 2026
- Final exhibition: December 2026
