Call for Applications: consARTium Visual Arts Studio Residency 2024-2025 in Barrie, Ontario
consARTium is a new group of patrons located in Barrie, Ontario with an interest in supporting contemporary visual art practice and the professional development of the visual artist community in Barrie. Through funding space for artistic development and exceptional projects, consARTium aims to foster a reciprocal environment where resident artists can work and grow while offering mentorship to regional visual artists. Entering its second year, the consARTium studio residency invites applications from Ontario-based artists seeking a subsidized studio space for a one-year term.
From November 1, 2024, to October 31, 2025, consARTium will support one artist or artist team who wish to work in a private studio space located within an established studio building near downtown Barrie. The selected artist or artist team is expected to:
- work in-person at the studio on a consistent basis
- arrange for their own transportation, accommodations, food and personal supplies
- provide three engagement activities with Barrie’s local visual arts community; introductions to artists and arts organizations will be facilitated by consARTium
The Studio:
- Approx. 220 sq. ft. space
- Private studio with a window and locking door
- Hi-speed Internet
- Parking
- Access to communal kitchen and washroom
- Located within a studio building occupied by practicing professional artists
Eligibility Criteria:
- This residency is for visual artists who have completed formal education or training at the post-secondary level, or who have acquired equivalent experience through traditional knowledge and practices, and who have received recognition from their peers
- consARTium invites applications from Ontario-based artists of all backgrounds, gender identities, and expressions
Application Requirements (submitted as one PDF file):
- One page statement describing how the artist/artist team intends to use the space (i.e. for a specific project or to continue with ongoing research and/or practice) and how this studio time will impact/benefit their practice
- An artist biography
- Six examples of past work and/or website and social media links
