MFA Art at the University of Lethbridge

The Department of Art, Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lethbridge invites applications to the Master of Fine Arts in Art Program.

The MFA in Art program offers emerging and mature artists and thinkers the opportunity to pursue graduate study in contemporary art practice. Graduate students join a dynamic community, and enjoy an exceptional level of interaction with renowned faculty artists, scholars, technical support staff and visiting artists. Our program encourages interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary excellence in practice-based research that leads to a terminal degree.

Integration of theory and practice, indigenous knowledge, critical perspectives on culture and society, material and conceptual investigations in all media, provides graduate students a stimulating and supportive context in which to learn, experiment, innovate and be challenged.

Located in the iconic Arthur Erikson designed Centre for the Arts, the Department of Art provides spacious studios, a full compliment of technical/material workshops, and state of the art equipment. Our graduate students pursue contemporary research-creation in any form, including: audiovisual, digital fabrication, drawing, experimental cinema, installation, media art, painting, performance, print, photography, publication, public sphere, sculpture, social practice, sound, spatial practice, video, and net art.

Lethbridge is home to a dynamic, growing arts community, and nationally recognized galleries. The University of Lethbridge art collection, among the largest of its kind in Canada, fosters student engagement with historical and contemporary artwork, while our unparalleled visiting speakers series, Art NOW, ensures direct exposure to and participation in the current debates and practices shaping global art, design and architecture today.

The MFA in Art is a two-year, full-time degree program. The University of Lethbridge provides financial support and professional development opportunities in teaching and research through Graduate Assistantships and scholarships.
