Call for Applications: Research Fellowships at the Ryerson Image Centre
Applications are now open for the Ryerson Image Centre’s annual fellowship program.
Research fellows have the opportunity to study select areas of the RIC’s photography collections first-hand. These include the acclaimed Black Star Collection of photo-reportage, with over a quarter-million prints spanning the 20th century; a historic and fine art photography collection; and several archives devoted to the life and work of diverse photographers, including Werner Wolff, Wendy Snyder MacNeil, Jo Spence, and Berenice Abbott. Access is also available to the Ryerson University Library Archives/Special Collections, which includes additional important resources related to photography, including the archive of Kodak Canada.
In 2021, the Ryerson Image Centre will offer five fellowships for research related to photography.
The Nadir Mohamed Postdoctoral Fellowship
$10,000 CAD (for candidates holding a PhD)
The Singer Family Doctoral Fellowship
$10,000 CAD (for candidates holding or working toward a PhD)
The Wendy Snyder MacNeil Research Fellowship *NEW*
$2,500 (for candidates holding or working toward an MA)
The Howard Tanenbaum Fellowship
$2,500 CAD (for candidates holding or working toward an MA, or those with equivalent experience and demonstrated interests)
The Elaine Ling Fellowship
$2,500 CAD (for candidates holding or working toward an MA)
Deadline: January 15, 2021, by 5 pm EST.
The scheduling, timing, and duration of the fellowships may be shifted due to COVID-19.

The RYERSON IMAGE CENTRE (RIC) exists for the research, teaching and exhibition of photography and related media. We are an active partner within the academic fabric of Ryerson University, the cultural network of greater Toronto, and the national and international artistic community. We develop rigorous yet inclusive programs for students, faculty, artists, researchers and curators, as well as the general public.
