The Department of Fine Arts proudly presents Caesura, the 45th Annual Senior Undergraduate Exhibition featuring artwork by fourth year honours students completing the Fine Arts undergraduate degree program at the University of Waterloo. Presenting a diverse range of themes, materials and media, the exhibition reflects both the creativity of the students and the wide-range of studio-based practices that they have been exposed to.
A caesura (pronounced say-sura) denotes a brief and silent pause within a metrical foot of a poem, song, and other forms of art. Alternatively, it references a break of an era; where one ends, and another begins. This exhibition presents the work of thirty-four artists, on the verge of completing their final year as Fine Arts students at the University of Waterloo. The exhibition captures a caesura of sorts: in the moment where a group of artists come together to take a breath, in celebration of their achievements and the possibilities that their futures hold. The diverse collection of artworks on display speaks to the distinct paths that the artists have pursued, on a shared four-year endeavour towards an undergraduate degree. While marking the end of one era, Caesurapreviews new chapters to come, for this soon to be graduating class.
