“Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.” – Pablo Picasso
Oeno Gallery welcomes you to Breathe, a curated group exhibition of contemporary artists whose work invites viewers to pause, exhale, and experience a moment of stillness.
The restrained brushwork, subdued palettes, and handcrafted nature of this collection of paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and fibre works encourage quiet reflection. Through diverse approaches to material and form, each artist explores the subtle power of calm, balance, and contemplation.
Featuring works by Karen Bagayawa, Susan Collett, Dan Hughes, Benny Katz, Chung-Im Kim, Claudia McCabe, Paula Murray, Milly Ristvedt, Sasha Rogers, Pat Service, Carol Sutton, and Richard Tosczak, Breathe offers a space for viewers to slow down and reconnect with the sensory and emotional experience of art.

June #1 by Milly Ristvedt, 1987, Acrylic on Arches Paper, 22.5 x 30 in.
Art’s colours, shapes and textures draw you into a silent world of emotion and thought. Science confirms what the heart already ‘knows’: observing art engages our mind, relieves stress and releases serotonin—the ‘feel good’ hormone. Our response to art remains deeply personal for we all reference our own memories, emotions, and culture. So, take a moment, find sanctuary in the quiet power of art and just breathe.
About the Artists
The artists featured in Breathe represent a range of established and emerging voices in contemporary Canadian art. Working across painting, sculpture, ceramics, and fibre, each artist brings a distinct perspective on material, form, and atmosphere. Despite their varied approaches, their work shares a sensitivity to gesture, surface, and quiet visual rhythm—qualities that encourage reflection and stillness.

Valeria by Benny Katz, 2025, Metal, Epoxy, Wood and Paint, 38 x 38 x 28 in.
