Bogdan Luca: The Crucible
March 27 – April 29, 2026
Opening Reception: March 27, 2026, 6 – 8pm
Prince Edward County Arts Council, Picton
Prince Edward County Arts Council presents The Crucible by Bogdan Luca, on display in their Vitrines from March 27 to April 29, 2026.
Combining interests in movement, fragmentation, and collage methodologies, the work on display brings together studio and plein air paintings in an improvised arrangement. By physically intermingling these approaches, the exhibition explores painting as both image and object.
About the Artist
Bogdan Luca is a Romanian-born artist whose practice blends lived reality with the mutable logic of dreams, drawing on a personal history shaped by the unstable atmospheres of late-communist Eastern Europe. After receiving his early artistic training in Romania, he immigrated to Canada, where he continued his studies at OCAD University before completing an MFA at the University of Toronto. He now teaches at both OCAD University and the Art Gallery of Ontario, where he works with students to develop a reflective, curious, and materially engaged studio practice. In addition to his studio practice, Bogdan maintains an active public art profile. He has produced murals for a wide range of clients and communities, developing long-standing relationships with organizations and private collectors. Most recently, he was selected to create a major mural project for the University of Toronto. Whether on canvas or large-scale walls, his work seeks to offer alternate vantage points on the world—images that stand on their own while inviting viewers to reconsider the familiar through new perspectives.
About the Vitrines
Housed in two custom-made display cases, this new exhibition series aims to increase the public visibility of artwork throughout the year while creating paid opportunities for artists. Located in the Armoury Atrium outside the County Arts Lab in Picton, the vitrines will feature rotating exhibitions by County artists working in a variety of mediums. The program is made possible thanks to a multi-year donation to the Artist Fund.
