Co-presented with The Power Plant, Arts + Letters Press is excited to launch issue 2 of their International publication art + reading, a journal about reading and making. This edition explores the theme—Deep Time—emphasizing collaborative strategies of making and storytelling, and the ‘entanglements’ of art and science specifically. The feature interview is with astronomer Doug Welch (McMaster University, Canada) and photo-based artist Dianne Bos (Canada and France) who discuss their collaboration for the project “Light Echo”.

Other contributors to this issue include artist Anna Madeleine (Australia) who incorporates augmented reality in her work; curator Nancy Campbell (Canada) who discusses the story-telling strategies of Inuit artist Shuvinai Ashoona (Kinngait/Cape Dorest, Canada); textile and multi-media artist Meghan Price (Canada) and artist, mapmaker, and geologist Suzanne Nacha (Canada), who seek new fieldwork methods for engaging geological sites; Aboriginal artist Judy Watson (Australia), who confronts historical policies of ‘blood ancestry’ through the lens of her personal genealogy; and more.

Accompanying the launch is a multimedia performance by astrophysicist and musician Matt Russo, jazz musician Andrew Santaguida, and vocalist Thom Gill. Contributors to this latest issue, Russo and Santaguida are co-founders of the sci-art outreach project SYSTEM Sounds, through which they convert astronomical data into music, sound and visualizations, revealing the hidden rhythms and harmonies of the universe.

Arts + Letters Press would like to thank The Power Plant for generously hosting the launch of Issue 2 of art + reading.
