Position Overview:

We’re seeking professional, enthusiastic and versatile visual artists with a background in visual art to be part of our dynamic team. The perfect fit for this role would be someone who finds joy in teaching a variety of art disciplines and is eager to spread their passion for creating art while engaging with a diverse audience. This position is open to those who wish to instruct kids/teens (ages 5 – 18) and/or adults. Courses and classes will take place in person at the Centre for Social Innovation – Annex, and also through various extracurricular activities held at community centers, public and private schools throughout the city. Additionally, the role is open to the option of conducting virtual courses via Zoom.

Position Title: Visual Art Educator
Type of Employment: Contract (0-5 days/week) commencing as early as February 2024 onwards.
Hours: Operating class hours range from 9am – 9:30pm for 1-3 hours in length for a duration of of approx. 3-12 weeks.
Work Location: Toronto (on-site, virtual, and off-site opportunities at various locations)
Pay Rate: Competitive pay rate (to be discussed upon contacting)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development and Instruction: Design and implement an art curriculum that meets educational standards. Tailor lesson plans to accommodate different skill levels and learning styles in visual art.
  • Classroom Management: Welcome students and create a supportive, inspiring environment for learning and creativity. Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for creativity and learning. Manage classroom resources and setup to optimize the educational experience.
  • Student Engagement and Assessment: Actively engage students in the learning process through interactive and hands-on art activities. Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Art Technique Demonstration: Demonstrate various art techniques and use of different materials that relate to your specialty and/or practice.
  • Administrative Tasks: Handle basic administrative tasks such as attendance of students in class, providing organized and detailed material lists for your classes, coordinating with the School in planning and designing of your courses and classes, sharing your courses and classes on social media for promotion.


  • Teaching Experience (Preferred): While we prioritize the love, skill and passion for art, there is a preference in prior experience in teaching art.
  • Artistic Skills: Strong skills in various art forms and mediums, with a portfolio showcasing personal or professional work as well as exhibited work.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, crucial for instructing and engaging with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Classroom Management Skills: Ability to manage diverse classrooms and create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Organizational Skills: Proficiency in organizing materials, planning lessons, and managing time effectively.
  • Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with digital tools and educational technology (Zoom) used in modern art classrooms.
  • Creativity and Innovation: A creative mindset with the ability to inspire and nurture creativity in students.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures and their influence on art, promoting inclusivity in the classroom.
