Photobook Dummy Reviews
Friday, May 2, 2025 | 10am – 12pm
Stephen Bulger Gallery, 1356 Dundas St W, Toronto
Deadline: April 7, 2025 by midnight EDT
CONTACT is now accepting applications from photo-based artists to participate in the 2025 Photobook Dummy Reviews.
Presented in conjunction with the Photobook Fair, this program is open to those who are developing a photobook, or for those with well-developed projects considering the book form for their work. This is an excellent opportunity for artists to have their work seen by local and international publishers, designers, and editors in a casual, one-to-one exchange. Artists will receive conceptual and practical insight about their projects, and gain invaluable feedback for applying to the Burtynsky Grant.
Please note that due to limited space, all submissions will go through a selection process. Submissions are free. There is a $50+HST participation fee for successful applicants. For submission details visit contactphoto.com/photobooks.

Workshop: Developing Ecological Photobooks
May 5 – 6, 2025
Daily 10am – 5pm + public event May 6, 6pm
CONTACT Photobook Lab, 80 Spadina Ave, Suite 205, Toronto
$200+HST
Facilitated by Tamsin Green, founder of the Sustainable Photobook Publishing (SPP) network, this two-day workshop will develop ecological frameworks for the making of photobooks. Participants will explore the physical aspects of the book (materials, binding, size) and how these relate to methods of circulation. The workshop will combine short talks, practical activities, group discussions, and engagement with the wider photobook ecosystem through conversations with guest speakers and visits to local printers and collections.
Participants will be asked to bring a selection of images from a project that they are working on. This could be at any stage of development. Working with these images within a digital collaborative space, we will develop both individual and collective approaches to sustainability. These approaches will be risograph printed and bound together in the workshop to take away as inspiration for future projects.
The workshop will culminate with a public discussion session on the evening of Tuesday, May 6 where workshop participants will discuss and share their findings.
Registration and requirements:
- No experience of book making required
- This workshop will have a maximum of eight (8) participants
- Please include a note on your interest in sustainability and photobooks
- Participants will be asked to bring a selection of digital images from an ongoing project
- Physical prints and/or book dummies to support your project are also welcomed
For questions about any of these programs, please contact photobook@contactphoto.com.
