Nancy Nguyen, Artist – Winnipeg

Nancy Nguyen is a multidisciplinary artist of Vietnamese descent, currently based in Winnipeg. Themes of Buddhism and spirituality are explored through her process of art making, with a strong interest in re-imagining her cultural roots through non-Western forms of art and philosophy. Nancy practices traditional techniques of East Asian art such as Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), Gong-Fu Cha (Chinese tea tasting), and Sumi-e ink painting, as well as music production. In 2024, she won third place at her first local beat-making competition under the alias L0v3yDucky, and continues to venture into music as a way to expand her practice. Her work is included in the group exhibition Wet Signal, on display at PLATFORM centre and co-presented by send + receive.
- Predictive History by Professor Jiang Xuequin

If there is one take-away from my list, it is this guy: Jiang Xuequin. He’s a professor who’s been going viral, teaching high school students the real and uncensored history of the world that institutions don’t want you to know by uploading a video of each of his classes online for free. This one surprises me because I am very much NOT a history buff and I can barely keep up while I’m listening to him, but I want to understand the world better and this man is single-handedly saving the future of humanity, one lecture at a time. You can find his channel here: Predictive History – YouTube. You’re welcome! ^_-
- The immaterial & esoteric world

Anything to do with what cannot be seen (i.e. consciousness, spirituality, astrology, etc.), and you have my attention. This kind of mindset and language comes very naturally to me, and I spend a lot of time deep diving into these topics through podcasts, books, and documentaries. Some gurus that I have on rotation are Teal Swan, Matias De Stefano, El Goliath, and Robert Thurman.
- My health

Ever since I started getting sore knees (and my heart broken twice last fall), I’ve been getting into the routine of working out at home four to five times a week, and eating more whole foods and less processed foods for the last three months. What’s really awesome is that I’ve already noticed positive physical and mental changes, so it’s been extremely motivating. I’m a highly emotional and sensitive person, and having a routine like this keeps me grounded.
- Amnesia Scanner

Amnesia Scanner, AS TRUTH, album cover
I keep coming back to this mixtape called AS TRUTH by Amnesia Scanner every time I just want to “mosh” around in my apartment. It’s so cathartic. It’s the kind of experimental electronic music I secretly want to make. You can listen to it here.
- Suminagashi

Nancy Nguyen, Suminagashi study
Thanks to the Wet Signal exhibition, my interest in Suminagashi (paper marbling) has been revitalized. I love working with this medium, and I’m even more excited to experiment with “hydro acoustics” where I paper marble with sound waves made from music I’ve produced!
