Kuhlein Migue, Artist – Calgary

Kuhlein Migue’s work draws inspiration from Filipino art history and movements including Abstract Expressionism and Impressionism. Her studio-based research examines how spaces of belonging are reimagined and reproduced in response to historical and contemporary practices that categorize racialized individuals as the Other. These themes are materialized through painting, drawing, and traditional hand-weaving techniques. Her solo exhibition Reconfigurations of Home is on display at The New Gallery until August 16.
- Hollyhocks

I recently saw a bunch of these flowers at a local garden, and they’ve been my favorite ever since. They have little details that are so much fun to draw, and beautiful colors that I can’t wait to try to replicate with paint. I’ve been working on a bunch of landscape paintings for a new series, and I’m looking forward to visiting more gardens and finding flowers I can paint.
- Clairo’s Charm

I’ve been a big fan of Clairo’s music for a long time, and I was really looking forward to this new album. It exceeded all my expectations! The production is incredible. It’s super seventies inspired. It’s the perfect summer album. And it’s really fun to listen to when I’m making new paintings or taking walks.
- Pistachio ice cream

I love anything with pistachio. It’s always been my favorite ice cream flavor because it’s not too sweet. I also live close to a good gelato shop, which is a huge bonus. I’ve definitely been having too much of it this summer, and I may be biased because it’s green, but it’s just so good!

This show is honestly very stressful to watch because it’s so chaotic. There’s not a single episode where the characters aren’t yelling at each other, but I think they’re written really well. It’s hard not to look forward to what happens next.
- Snoopy

I just think he’s cute and silly, and I love that!
