Making Herself Heard: Music by Baroque Women
Chamber Series by Tafelmusik
Friday, November 24, 2023 | 8 pm
Celebrating the creativity and artistry of women in the 17th and 18th centuries, Making Herself Heard brings us the music of Baroque women whose renown as composers and performers was all but ignored in the annals of history. In bringing their work out of the shadows, we discover a fresh, “new” soundscape in the works of Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Isabella Leonarda, Marianne Martinez, and the enigmatic Mrs. Philarmonica.
Acoustic Conversation: The Tom Thomson Guitar
Featuring Sergei de Jonge, Tony Duggan-Smith, George Gray, Grit Laskin, Linda Manzer, David Wren
Friday, December 1, 2023 | 8 pm
The Tom Thomson Guitar, the culmination of the McMichael’s 2017 Group of Seven Guitar Project, has finally entered the Gallery’s permanent collection. Created through an artistic collaboration of seven luthiers involved in the 2017 project, this baritone guitar is a peerless musical instrument and an exquisite fine art object. We are delighted to have six of the luthiers join us for a conversation about the genesis of the Tom Thomson Guitar, followed by a performance by the duo Twin Flames in which the instrument will be played.
Tickets include all-day Gallery admission. The Gallery Shop and CABIN café will be open for dining before the event.
