We offer accessible, inclusive and affordable printmaking facilities, programs and services for artists and the public from across Canada and abroad. Studio and Education Manager Job Description
The Studio and Education Manager is responsible for all studio and education operations and related programming at Open Studio. They help provide a safe, welcoming and accessible studio space for artists, visitors and the general public.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the general maintenance and repair of studio equipment and recommending improvements to the facility
  • Maintains and updates studio agreements and schedules, leads orientation meetings with new renters and distributes relevant materials
  • Ensures health and safety requirements are met and implemented with the support of the Health & Safety Committee
  • Manages the studio’s rental and storage program and orders and maintains an inventory of supplies for the studio and its associated programs
  • Manages ongoing artist projects and residencies and leads special print projects relating to fundraising and external promotions of the studio
  • Manages the education program and coordinates hands-on experiences as needed
  • Supervises the custom printing program, providing quotes and selecting printers
  • Welcomes studio visitors and provides tours for school groups and the general public
  • Supports member relations and the ongoing growth and retention of studio users
  • Promotes community expansion and works with various Committees and staff to ensure the success of studio-related programs including volunteerism and work exchange
  • Supervises studio assistants and works collaboratively to carry out studio-related tasks
  • Participates in various programming juries and provides technical consultation as needed (Visiting Artist Residencies, Scholarships, Fellowships and special calls etc.)
  • Produces financial reports concerning studio-related programs
  • Maintains records of studio programs and collects associated studio proofs (fundraising, visiting artists’, etc.) and documentation

Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of printmaking studio equipment, materials and hands-on comprehension of printmaking processes
  • Commitment to health and safety issues in a printmaking environment
  • Basic building and repair skills and experience using power tools would be an asset
  • Experience in arts administration and educational programming would be beneficial
  • Familiar with Mac computers, Google Drive and Microsoft Office
  • Able to manage multiple deadlines, multi-task and retain organized institutional records
  • Familiarity with design programs like Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset
  • Experience writing grants would be an asset
  • Entrepreneurial outlook and willingness to cultivate partnerships
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-directed and able to work as a team member in a small, open and busy environment
  • Knowledge and respect for diverse aesthetic, cultural and ideological points of view and the ability to facilitate a productive exchange
