STEPS Public Art is hiring for two roles as we enter a period of organizational transition and growth. We are currently recruiting for the following positions:
STEPS is a national charitable organization that engages artists and communities to transform public spaces into vibrant, welcoming, and meaningful places. Our work spans public art, cultural planning, and creative placemaking across Canada, grounded in equity, collaboration, and community impact. We work closely with artists, municipalities, nonprofits, and private-sector partners to deliver complex, community-engaged projects with care and integrity. Operations Manager
(Full-Time, Permanent)
Location: Hybrid (Toronto-based, minimum 2 days/week in office)

This is a senior operational leadership role ideal for someone with experience (or a strong passion) in arts, culture, or mission-driven work, who enjoys building systems that support creative teams and complex project portfolios.
The Operations Manager plays a critical role in ensuring STEPS’ projects, people, and business development activities are well-supported, coordinated, and aligned with organizational strategy.
Key focus areas include:
- Facilitating portfolio-level project management across public art and cultural planning initiatives (including kick-offs, working sessions, and project wrap-ups that document learnings)
- Managing revenue pipelines, including a CRM system to support high-volume outbound outreach and business development
- Overseeing organization-wide operations, including finance coordination, systems, workflow design and facilities management.
- Supporting staff engagement, onboarding, performance cycles, and HR coordination in collaboration with leadership and external advisors
- Supervising operations and communications staff, and providing continuity during periods of team change
- Translating operational and outreach data into insights that support strategic planning and decision-making

Communications & Operations Associate
(Part-Time, with Full-Time Seasonal Potential)
Status: Part-Time (0.5 FTE, 18 hours/week) during the academic year; potential full-time summer hours May–August
Location: Hybrid (Toronto-based, minimum 2 days/week in office)
Hourly Wage: $22/hour

This hands-on role is well-suited to an early- or mid-career professional, graduate student, or post-graduate student interested in arts administration, nonprofit operations, and outreach support.
Working closely with the Operations Manager and Marketing & Communications Coordinator, the Associate helps ensure that STEPS’ day-to-day systems, outreach activities, and project logistics are running smoothly.
Key focus areas include:
- Supporting CRM-based outreach, lead tracking, and follow-up via email and phone
- Assisting with communications, marketing administration, and documentation
- Providing on-the-ground and administrative support for public art projects and events
- Supporting health & safety, office operations, and internal coordination
- Helping ensure that nothing falls through the cracks during busy project periods
