Glenfiddich Invites Canadian Artists to Apply for the 20th Annual Artists in Residence Program, a Renowned Residency Valued at over $28,000 CAD
The prestigious Glenfiddich Artists in Residence program is now accepting applications for the 2026 Contemporary Art Residency program.
In the summer of 2026, Glenfiddich® will celebrate twenty years of hosting Canadian artists at the Speyside distillery—birthplace of the world’s most awarded single malt whisky. Over two decades, the internationally acclaimed program has nurtured and supported artists from diverse artistic backgrounds, including painting, drawing, sculpture, audio & video, conceptual art, performance and photography.
The program now invites artists living and working in Canada to submit proposals for the 2026 Glenfiddich® Artists in Residence Prize. Valued at over $28,000 CAD, the coveted prize includes airfare, three months accommodation, a generous salary, and a substantial budget for materials and production.
“2026 sees the Glenfiddich Residency Programme celebrate a special milestone with its silver jubilee,” says programme curator Andy Fairgrieve. “The past 25 year have not just seen the creation of a body of work celebrating the unique and special location of the Valley of the Deer, home of Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky but has also forged lasting and meaningful relationship between artists from across the globe.”
The 2025 prize winner, acclaimed Vancouver artist Alex Morrison, found the site a constant source of inspiration: “The distillery, its history, and the surrounding landscape offered fresh perspectives and renewed energy for my work. I especially valued the balance between time for solitude and meaningful moments of connection with the other artists.”
To be considered for the prize, artists are asked to complete an application that includes a project proposal, curriculum vitae, short artist statement, and examples of previous work. Completed applications must be submitted via Airtable by January 31, 2026, at 11:59pm EST.
A distinguished jury of artists and curators—David Diviney, Ruth Burns, Ivan Jurakic, Joshua Schwebel, Stefan Hancherow, and Eunice Luk—select from over 200 submissions each year and create a list of ten finalists. From this shortlist, Fairgrieve selects the winner based on the inventiveness of their proposal, the quality of their previous work, and their compatibility with the other participating artists.
The Glenfiddich® Artists in Residence Program has hosted over a hundred and sixty artists from countries such as Australia, Chile, China, Finland, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Poland, Scotland, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, the UK, the US, and Canada, since its inception in 2002.
Past winners from Canada include Daniel Barrow, Helen Cho, Lee Henderson, Marla Hlady & Christof Migone, Eleanor King, Dean Baldwin Lew, Derek Liddington, Myfanwy Macleod, Vanessa Maltese, Damian Moppett, Annie Pootoogook, Jon Sasaki, Jillian Mcdonald, Damian Moppett, Arabella Campbell, Rhonda Weppler & Trevor Mahovsky, Julie Forgues, and Dave Dyment, who now administers the jury process.
“Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from the history, landscape, and culture of the Scottish Highlands,” says Dyment. “It’s impossible not to.”
Applicant submissions will be accepted from December 5, 2025, until January 31, 2026, at 11:59pm EST. Visit Airtable to submit your application.
The winning Canadian artist will be announced in April 2026.
