A Unique Opportunity to Study Visual Arts at the Edge of the Arctic
Applications are open for the Yukon School of Visual Arts Foundation Year Program, Fall 2026.
Join our rigorous 8-month Foundation Year Program in the sub-arctic community of Dawson City, Yukon, within the traditional territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in.
This program is equivalent to your first year of art school OR a stand-alone visual arts certificate. Whether you are starting your art education or wanting to strengthen your art practice, Yukon SOVA could be the perfect fit!
We offer:
- small class sizes with a maximum of 15 students in the program
- world-renowned faculty
- an introduction to the vibrant arts community in Dawson City and opportunities to participate in local arts festivals and events

The Foundation Year Program at YSOVA is designed and run by artists, for artists. Disciplines include painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, video, sculpture, installation and performance, with an emphasis on land-based learning.
After graduation Yukon SOVA Foundation Year students can complete their BFAs at our partner schools across Canada. Yukon SOVA is part of the Applied Arts Division of Yukon University and receives its academic accreditation through the University.
