November 1 – December 6, 2025
Latcham Art Centre, Stouffville
All are welcome, and admission is free.
Imagine a distant future in which the belongings that crowd our museums, homes, and landfills are cast off, buried, and compressed over millennia to be discovered, embedded within rock formations. Nicholas Crombach’s imaginative sculptural work projects viewers into this speculative future to explore the geological, environmental, and social impacts of our impulse to produce, consume, and display things.
Emphasizing a world where natural and human materials exist in a state of entanglement, the work invites viewers to consider the layered relationships between materials, time, and human intervention. A range of objects including musical instruments, conch shells, bones, household items, and pottery are assembled into clusters and bisected to reveal their interiors, transforming them into mysterious specimens.
By juxtaposing seemingly disparate materials, the sculptures highlight the ways human and natural histories converge, inviting reflection on how materials accumulate, persist, and transform—both as artifacts of the past and as evolving elements within our present landscape.
Latcham Art Centre gratefully acknowledges the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville for their generous support of this exhibition.
