photoED Magazine Issue #74 – Memory: Photography that looks backwards to move us forward
Deadline: June 9, 2025
photoED magazine’s curatorial team will select 10 artist projects to be featured in print and digital replica editions, with 25 additional artists showcased in a free-access Digital Extra companion edition.
Submissions are open to emerging and professional fine art photographers worldwide.
Since 2001, photoED Magazine has championed lens-based storytelling, featuring acclaimed artists such as June Clark, Edward Burtynsky, and Laurence Philomène, to name only a few.
photoED magazine celebrates diverse voices in contemporary photography in a brand-new light. Print publishing is a unique and rare privilege that offers artists a legacy document of their work and story.

photoED Magazine is looking to publish – in print and online:
- Well considered submissions – A project/idea crafted with intention
- Fine art – not stock photography
- Original artistic work
- Diverse interpretations on the theme “Memory” – which means images that refer to the past, in order to move us ahead towards a brighter future.
Submissions are blind reviewed by our Volunteer Curatorial Editorial board members.
When examining entries, judges will assess how the work presents a unique interpretation on the theme of Memory.
photoED magazine very strongly recommends applicants make time to read a printed edition of the publication, or access a digital replica online in order to best understand our vision and context.
Selected Artists Receive:
- Ten finalists projects will be published in photoED magazine’s 74th edition in print (and digital replica versions.)
- Ten finalists will receive 4x additional printed copies of the publication (including shipping worldwide.)
- An additional 25 finalists will feature in the free digital extra companion edition launching online on October 1, 2025.
- All finalists will receive exposure across photoED magazine’s email campaigns and social media channels.

Entry for this call is free to our print edition subscribers, and current Patreon supporters. (Subscriptions must be current through October 2025.)

The General Submission fee for this call for submissions: $10 CDN
If you reside in Canada, and would like to pre-purchase a single copy of the Memory edition + enter this call for submissions: $20 CDN
If you do not reside in Canada, and would like to pre-purchase a single printed copy of the Memory edition + enter this call for submissions: $30 CDN
With independent editorial integrity as a guiding principle, submissions by all artists including BIPOC artists, women, persons with disabilities, members of the deaf community, and persons living in poverty are warmly welcomed.
Note: Any economically challenged artists may be relieved of payment requirements to ensure we reduce as many barriers we can in celebrating under-valued, under-represented creative work. Please contact the editor with your exemption request: rita@photoed.ca

By submitting their work, the photographer acknowledges that they have full rights to the images and has obtained proper releases where warranted.
