Sport Courts Mural
Submission Deadline: June 10, 2025 at 4pm

The District of Tofino (The District) invites proposals from professional mural artists from Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and the Northern Territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut), to create a permanent mural design that is reflective of the community, ecology and culture of Tofino, BC. The mural is to be installed at the basketball and pickleball/tennis courts located at the Village Green in Tofino. Preference will be given to regional artists.

This is a two-stage competition.

Project Requirements
The following criteria will assist the selection panel to evaluate artist submissions:

• Demonstrated mastery of technique.
• Previous community engagement.
• Previous experience and portfolio of work.
• Ability to design artwork suitable for all ages.
• Demonstrated knowledge or willingness to capture the creative/eclectic character of Tofino.
• Budget and timeline considerations that are realistic and support successful completion of the project.

Eligibility
Individual artists and artist teams are invited to apply.

Budget
Range: $15,000 – $25,000

Selection Process
The Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) will review all Stage 1 competition entries and select a short list of three applicants to proceed to Stage 2.

Stage 1 is intended to provide applicants with the opportunity to express initial themes, approaches, preliminary sketches and ideas without the need for a highly detailed design.

Submission Requirements
Stage 1:

• Expression of Interest outlining preliminary themes, design concepts related to the site and preliminary sketches and images that represent your intent for the site, thoughts on timeline and budget.
• Resume/CV and Portfolio (10 images maximum). For artist team collaborations, please submit individual artworks within one portfolio.
• Community Engagement Plan that accurately demonstrates how the artist(s) will engage and reflect the community, ecology and culture of Tofino in their process and design.
