Call for Expressions of Interest: Two Public Art Opportunities, City of Surrey

Call for Public Art:
152 St. Bridge at Nicomekl
Submission Deadline: June 9, 2025
Design Fee: $7,500
The City of Surrey is inviting Expressions of Interest for a public artwork for the 152 St Bridge which crosses over the Nicomekl River. The artwork will be a series of 12 steel panels, powder coated and affixed to the bridge railing which separates the roadway and a multi-use path.
The artwork will consider the river’s movement as an abundant pathway, that connects communities and creates biodiversity. The Nicomekl River has historically been a significant ecological and cultural waterway: as a source for harvest, trade, and transportation. Once thickly wooded low banks, the Nicomekl served as a key fish-bearing watercourse, a through route for migratory birds, and movement network for a range of mammals in the region. To increase flood protection and traffic movement on the 152 St Bridge crossing, the new bridge design will twin existing roadways and include a multi-use pathway. The artwork will be mounted to the bridge railing once it’s been built and will be visible from both the road and the pedestrian path.
