Call for Submissions: Nuance Of The North
Artwrk.ca Juried Art Show
Curated by Alissa Sexton
Submission Deadline: May 20, 2025
Launching June 20, 2025, Online
What does it mean to be Canadian today? In tandem with shifting political tensions, many of us are rediscovering a quiet, rooted sense of pride in our country—tempered by humility, shaped by history, and fuelled by hope.
Nuance of the North brings together contemporary Canadian artists working in landscape, abstraction, photography, collage, and mixed media to reflect on the evolving nature of Canadian identity. Launching just ahead of Canada Day and National Indigenous People’s Day, the exhibition offers space for both celebration and contemplation—acknowledging that this country is vast, diverse, and still becoming.
This land holds many histories—some spoken, some still being uncovered. We encourage artists to consider their own relationships to place, memory, and nationhood, while recognizing the layered truths that exist here.
This exhibition welcomes two-dimensional artwork that exemplifies our Canadian spirit: pride, critique, humour, love of land, belonging, or quiet observation. The result will be a collective portrait of Canada that resists cliché and embraces complexity.
Nuance of the North invites us to look closer—to see beauty alongside contradiction, to honour what connects us, and to celebrate the richness of a country still in the making.
