The candidate will have an active creative research practice, exhibition record, the potential to secure funding, as well as a demonstrated record of exemplary teaching at the post-secondary level. Applicants should hold an MFA or equivalent and a minimum of two years post-secondary teaching experience relevant to the position.

The successful candidate will have teaching interests rooted in the discipline of painting; experience teaching a range of techniques and concepts in painting (traditional to contemporary), including but not limited to representational, conceptual, non-objective, process-based approaches; and the ability to extend the discourse of painting through experimental, hybrid, or other approaches relevant to contemporary practice. The successful candidate will also have the capacity to bring critical theory, global contexts, diverse cultural perspective and intersectional approaches to bear on their pedagogy. The ability to teach in a secondary discipline would be an asset, as would knowledge of ecological, sustainable approaches and methods in the studio.

Applicants should clearly articulate their experience and capacity to teach discipline-specific studio methodologies and approaches to painting, as well as expanded practices relevant to the future of the field. Their teaching record should illustrate broad thinking, innovative, inclusive, and accessible teaching methods and approaches, as well as the ability to incorporate art history, visual culture, discourse and critical theory into their teaching.

In addition to maintaining high quality teaching and a strong creative research practice, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental activities and service.
